What is Hijama/Cupping

Hijama is Also Known as Cupping Therapy. It is a process of removing blood from the body and it is distinctive from the well-known practice of bloodletting or Cupping because Hijama is governed by specific times that it should take place as well as specific points on the body that enhances health, detoxifies the body, and build up immunity.

Hijama is actually an ancient treatment that originated in China thousands of years ago. “Hijama” is derived from the Arabic root word ‘Hajm’, which means ‘Sucking’. Hijama is also a Faith-based and Sunnah Therapy; is practiced at Specific timings and cupping is carried out at any time and on any safely selected points of the body. Hijama is based on the principles of energy, production, flow, and Regulation.

Cupping is the modern term for this ancient form of medical treatment in which a partial vacuum is created in cups that are positioned onto the surface of the body. The Vacuum created by either heat or suction draws up the skin, subcutaneous tissue, and muscle layers a few millimeters into the cups. The Negative pressure that translates into the body’s tissue encourages blood flow, the release of toxins, and the removal of waste and has been found to affect the body up to four inches deep through the tissues. The cups can be left in one place on the skin or moved as part of massage cupping.

The first-ever documented medical text was found in Ebers Papyrus 1550 B.C in Egypt. Cupping was also discovered in China over 5000 years ago and is still practiced to this day. It was commonly practiced in the Roman Empire, Islamic Empire, Europe, Russia, Central Asia, South Asia, and the USA. It was very popular during the middle-ages and 18th and 19th Centuries in Europe. Right now it is most popular in China, Finland, Germany, England, Bangladesh, Malaysia, and many Islamic Countries.

The old Unani Doctors were the first to utilize Hijama Cupping Foundationally. Also in Antiquated Greece, Buqrat (Hippocrates) utilized cupping for inner infections and basic issues. Finally, Cupping Therapy has been and is currently being practiced in: Prophetic Medicine, Greek/Unani Medicine, Arabic Medicine, Ancient Chinese Medicine and now also amongst the European & American Culture.
